WHAT IS IT: Mentholatum LipIce Sheer Color
THE PRODUCT(S):
Mentholatum LipIce Sheer Color: This is a unique color changeable lipbalm. It goes on clear and changes color to a sheer pink which enhances the natural beauty of your lips.
Gentle Beeswax formulation, suitable even for sensitive lips. Enriched with natural ingredients of Shea Butter, Macadamia Nut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Ternifolia Nut Oil, and Aloe Vera Oil Extract to keep lips moisturized, smooth & healthy. Contains effective anti-oxidants of Vitamin E to soften and protect lips from the harmful environment. Available in 3 variety that includes Strawberry, Shimmer & Fragrance Free.
The lip balm itself looked something like this, clear with no indication that it's actually a sheer color lip balm. Except for the name of this product on the packaging itself.
I only applied this on my lower lip only, so you can see that it's really what the packaging promised. Sheer Lip Color upon application. You can see the color difference between the upper and lower lip really well.
I tried wiping the balm off my lower lip and successfully left a pinkish-stain on my lower lip. And as mentioned before, the lip balm itself looked clear, but when wiped off from your lips, the color actually comes off. Interesting.
VERDICT: First of all, the scent of strawberry is heavenly. The scent isn't that overpowering to make you feel nauseous and neither is it too cloying to put you off either. Back during the early 1990s, lip balms were strictly lip balm. Nothing fanciful, such as sheer color or even scented. But fast forward to now, and those of you late bloomers or born after the 1990s should be glad and happy that lip balms are fast udergoing new changes, inventions and innovations to make it a more appealing product to use on. Especially important, since all of us are so guilty of being lazy once in a while by licking our lips with saliva instead of drinking actual water when our lips are dry and parched.
The lip balm itself looks nondescript since the color of it doesn't give you any clue that it's actually a sheer color variety, that changes your lip color to your own unique shade of pink. You only know it's a special lip balm after you apply it to your lips. Although Mentholatum isn't the only brand that have scented lip balms, do know that some scents actually smell really artificial. It's hard to describe in detail exactly how and why. But you'll know the difference if you are someone who tend to want to sniff his or her products before buying and/or trying.
If you think the retail packaging looks rather ordinary, then you're just half right. What looks normal may actually pack a punch, as proven by this Mentholatum LipIce Sheer Color. Even the sample version is lightweight, small and can be brought out of the house anywhere with you for easy usage and access. Also, I personally like the fact that when you apply this lip balm on your lips, the color changes immediately. Instead of the usual cliché of "the color/scent/feeling/emotion will proceed when mixed with your body warmth". It's immediate, like Pronto!
If you think lip balms such as this leaves a somewhat "greasy" feeling on your lips, rest assured it's actually normal. Lip balms when applied on your lips actually formed a protective layer that ensures your lips stay moisturized without getting dry nor chapped, whether you are someone who have to work under the sun or just have to spend long hours in air-conditioned rooms throughout the day.
Personally, I tend to use lipbalms at night when I am sleeping as moisture get sucked from our skin when we sleep at night. And during the day when I am awake, I always constantly reached for water to drink, so the "stay moisturized" part is taken care of. And to be honest, when I wake up in the morning, this Mentholatum LipIce Sheer Color doesn't leave a whitish film-like substance on my lips and I personally find that it can last throughout the entire night for me. During the day, it would be different and it won't last that long as we are eating, drinking, talking, etc etc.
TIP: If you intend to wear this out, apply sparingly in a thin layer as too thick a layer will make your smackers look "wayang pink". Just don't blame me if that happens, I've already warned you. Also, if you are someone who wants a little color on your lips but hated lipsticks, then this is definitely for you. I know I hate lipsticks too, but adore lipbalms to a whole new insane level.
