Q #1: What is skin allergy?

A: Skin allergy refers to the condition in which the skin turns red, swollen, experiences pain, peeling, pimples and acne etc after using skin care products. From the biology of skin cells, we know that the skin is made up of countless cells, and every skin cell has the function of absorbing nutrients and secreting waste. This is the metabolism of skin cells. Skin allergy is the function of metabolism through the secretion of waste in the skin. There are four types of skin allergy:

• Normal Allergy
• Vicious Allergy
• Allergy caused by wrong application
• Allergy caused by food

Q #2: What is Normal Skin Allergy?

A: Normal allergy refers to the use of skin care products of good quality, whose ingredients are only beneficial and do not contain any poisonous substances. After use, any sensitive reaction of the skin is normal as it is due to the functions of metabolism. This is due to the product working on the skin, enhancing circulation of blood and oxygen, performing the absorption and secretion functions. After the skin absorbs the nutrients, toxins and dead cells are released in the process.

Q #3: Who suffers from Normal Skin Allergy?

A: Firstly, those who suffers from poor quality skin, those who do not take care of their skin or have not used skin care products before, may experience Normal Skin Allergy when they use products enriched with nutrients that stimulate metabolism. It is a sign of the sudden absorption of too much nutrients. As a result, the skin cells are not able to accommodate so quickly. Allergy caused by the process of over-nourishment is a normal biological process and is known as Normal Skin Allergy.

Secondly, those who have poisoned skin, caused by using inferior skin care products with poisonous elements (in certain whitening and freckles treatment creams). Once they switched to good quality products, the products will exercise a function of detoxification. It will secrete the toxins underlying in the skin cells. This creates a detoxifying allergy of skin.

Those who experience Normal Skin Allergy must have patience and confidence in using good or superior skin care products. The symptoms will disappear after about a week, when the skin's metabolism returns to a normal state, and skin will become more beautiful than before.

Q #4: What is Vicious Skin Allergy?

A: Those who have been using inferior skin care products which contain heavy metals such as mercury, lead, hydroquinone and iodine to treat their freckles and pigmentation may find that the products work rapidly, but the side effects also occur quickly. Constant use of such inferior products will result in skin poisoning. Dark spots will appear and are more obvious under the sun's rays. This is Vicious Skin Allergy. Users should stop application immediately as in the long run, continuous use of such products will result in the poison entering into the body system and affecting one's overall health.

A #5: What is Allergy caused by wrong application?

A: Non-adherence to instructions, wrong use or overuse of skin products will lead to burning and darkening of skin. In serious cases, the skin becomes inflamed and begins to peel. Such users should stop using the products temporarily, or use only mild products. After a few days to one week when the skin has recovered, they can then use the products, gradually increasing the dosage.

Q #6: What is Allergy caused by food?

A: Skin allergy caused by consuming high-level hormone seafood or stale seafood contaminated with bacteria is known as Allergy caused by food. However, consumers often neglect the above-mentioned facts and instead wrongly assume that their skin reactions or allergy are due to the use of poor quality skincare products.

Q #7: How can skin allergy be treated?

A: If you discover that you have developed Normal Skin Allergy after using skincare products, do not panic or rush to consult a doctor as some products do not contain ingredients that are harmful to the skin. The allergy is a sign that the product is being absorbed by the skin cells and resulting in the secretion of toxins from the skin cells; or is the symptoms caused by the absorption of nutrients that are suddenly fed to skin which is in poor & weak condition, or has not been properly cared for; or is the symptom of secretion of potential toxins in the skin which has been using products containing toxin elements. This is a sign of detoxification.

In the case of skin allergy, do not be worried, this is a normal symptom. You can either continue to use the product or use a smaller amount. Or, stop for a few days before continue using again.

Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating Oil [ Organix ] Review

Using a few drops, and you can see that it looks pretty clear.

VERDICT: First of all, let us start off with the usual #1 activity when reviewing beauty products. We sniff and fall in love! -sniffs- Well, this Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating Oil actually has a sweet non-cloying and pleasant scent, despite being a hair oil, it doesn't literally reek of the smell of oil that makes you feel nauseous. The color of this Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating Oil is actually a pale transparent yellowish color, close to the color of chrysanthemum tea, I would say.

As you can see in the 2nd photo above, even though it is a small sample satchet, this is really good to use for a total of at least 1 week or slightly more, depending on how long your hair is. I transferred mine to a re-usable plastic pot for further usage throughout the week. You do not need to use too much even if you have long hair. Application/Usage is also straightforward as well, just rub it in between your palms to "spread" it out, then run your 'oil-spread' fingers through your hair to coat evenly and get rid of tangled ends while nourishing split ends at the same time.

This Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating Oil absorbs rather quickly into my hair and despite hours after using this, my hair doesn't feel nor look oily/greasy and yet at the same time, left this wonderful scent in my hair. You may think that 'Moroccan' and 'Argan Oil' may sound like an oily combination that is going to smell bad, but guess what, you will fall in love with this scent. It's just simply divine!

Even from the first time I appplied this Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating Oil on my hair, it already made my hair feel so baby smooth. And I just cannot resist finding an excuse just so I can run my fingers through my smooth hair again and again. And after applying on your hair, the leftover residue on your hands are easily washed off with soap + water as well. Unlike some similar products that may require you to use more soap than usual.

Beauty Buffet Series: Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask [Watsons] Review

[ This is my first time doing an actual facial mask (peel-off paper type) review, so kindly bear with me if the post sounds or seems rather confused ^^ ]

WHAT IS IT: Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask

THE PRODUCT(S):

Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask: This Beauty Buffet Mask's unique recipe is made up of Charcoal to deeply cleanse and purify pores, as well as Cypress Extract to help maintain oil balance and refine pores, and Glycine to help retain moisture. After use, skin appears more supple, tightened and refreshed. Natural botanical extracts - Algae, Aloe Vera and Cucumber also help to moisturize and nourish skin.

Here's how the Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask from Watsons looks like :)

VERDICT: First of all, the scent of this Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask has a pleasant smell to it, as soon as you opened up the packaging. And as stated on the back, it "help maintain oil balance and refine pores and to help retain moisture". I'd say yes to the supple and refreshed part, but as for the tightening part, I'd say I didn't see nor feel any tightening effects.

As I tend to use facial mask like this roughly once every 3-4 days, which makes it a good 2 times a week, maybe that's why I don't seem to see nor feel the tightening effect at all. The instructions stated that it can be used on a daily basis, but cheapskate me tend not to follow instructions. Even though it's cheap, but ultimately, I'm not the only person buying it. So, if I used mine up and Watsons is sold out as well, how? D:

But on to the other good part(s) of this Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask. For the supple part, it does helps if you do exfoliate your face prior to using this as it's rather pointless to do facial masks if the pores on your face is clogged. Only by exfoliating could the essence from the Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask be absorbed more easily. My skin definitely felt a little more supple after the 1st time I used it. As for the refreshed part, I cannot really say it's from the mask. But I would like to assure you, my beautiful readers, that not doing, thinking or worrying about anything for at least 15 to 20 minutes while using this Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask ensures that the after-facial experience definitely contribute towards the calm and refreshed feeling/sensatin.

This does help to contain excess oil/sebum and so far, I'd dare say the sebum flow from my face is definietly more controlled as opposed to before. Although the occasional usage of other products may aggravate it, that's why I keep at least 20 of this Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask in stock inside my room. So that everytime my facial sebum gets out of control, this always comes in handy. And luckily for me, the only time I've had excessive sebum was due to the Arsainte Eco-Therapy Vitalist Serum sample I've previously tried and reviewed.

However, the cons aren't that much actually. A lot of the essence from this Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask will go to waste if you do follow the packaging instructions to use it for only 15 - 20 minutes. I let mine stay on my side for at least a good 30 minutes, or until the facial mask felt almost dry before removing it. And also, the facial mask itself is rather too large for my face. My hairline and hair actually got a dosage of this Charcoal & Cypress Facial Mask along with my face/skin too! XD

I previusly bought only 1 to try while my mother bought different varieties to try. Tried a generous dollop of it!!

VERDICT: First of all, let's talk about the scent of SteamCream. The moment I took in the scent, it reminds me fondly of 2 things. Snow Hazeline that has stopped production, I know the scent isn't really the same and it's been too long since I sniffed a Snow Hazeline product. But it evokes days in the 1980s when moisturizers aren't that fanciful, just simplicty and SteamCream aims to fulfill that philosophy. And secondly, it also kind of reminds me of my late grandfather's hair gel (the type that old grandfathers are particularly fond of in the 1970s onwards).

You may think that the scents for these 3 mentioned items are in no way similar, so how did I exactly ascertain it? Well you see, back in the 1980s when I was just a little girl. Snow Hazeline and my late grandfather's hair gel are synonymous with my own childhood and products like SteamCream actually evokes wonderful memories of the days of my childhood.

Now, let's go onto the actual product, SteamCream. First of all, this product can be classified into a few "categories" for me, and they are mainly:

• Tin packaging - Each container is distinctive and is deeply associated with current trends. But the product inside the tin is just as wonderful!


• Light & Glossy - SteamCream is light and yet glossy at the same time, instead of the usual thick and creamy variety.


• Smell - The scent itself can probably evoke memories from your childhood, or when you were still a teenager, it does for me, so I'm sure it will for you.


• Non-greasy - It looks thick and creamy, but it isn't and hours after using this, I don't find my skin taking on an unhealthy "oily/greasy" sheen at all.


• All-over moisturizer - It actually works as an overall moisturizer. But I tend to mostly use this on my legs instead as my legs suffer more dryness than the rest of my body.
  

Just the packaging is enough to make you want to grab a few tins, I know I'm thinking this way. And a check on their website states that "by using a simple unique steam process, they can can invest in natural materials such as orange flower water, oatmeal and vegetable glycerine to hydrate your skin. Almond and jojoba oils, with moisturising cocoa butter, soften the skin’s surface." How good is that?

Sometimes, we all just need a good moisturizer that we can just use it, without having to worry about exactly what goes in there. Kinda reminiscent of the days when the only moisturizer available in Singapore is caleld Snow Hazeline, isn't it? 1 bottle of Snow Hazeline = entire family uses it ^^

Face Washing Brush [Daiso] Review

WHAT IS IT: Face Washing Brush [from Daiso]

Face Washing Brush: Wash your face by gently rubbing to loosen your skin using soft silicone can smoothly remove difficult-to-remove pore-clogging impurities. You can remove accumulated skin debris, sebaceous matter, deadskin and pore-clogging debris. It is easy to use as it fits your fingers.


Hold it with the rounded tip pointing upwards.

VERDICT: To be honest, there are some days when I'm sure some of us are a little wee lazy when it comes to washing our face. It's like, yesterday I counted to 20, so today, I think I'm just going to skive off a little and count to 5. Don't worry if you think or even do that sometimes, you're not alone.

And yet there will be days when you are using either tired to having to use your fingers to massage/rub your face long enough for the dead skin on your face to come off or you are not cleaning long enough. Well, fret no more! Introducing this Face Washing Brush by Daiso (retailing at only S$2 per piece!). You can probably find a variety of different face washing brush at either the same or different Daiso outlets, so you might want to take a little longer to decide which one is better.

I previously used the pink spade-shaped one, but found that it wasn't really effective. It just effectively rubs/massages my face, but didn't aid in removing excess dead skin cells on the surface of my face. I got so frustrated with it that I promptly trashed it and went back out to Daiso and got this blue one instead.

What's the difference, you may wonder? Since face washing brushes are mostly the same, they should work the same way. Well, I'll regretfully tell you this, they are not really the same.

The pink spade-shaped one actually has round and soft bristles, and I felt that one is probably more for using as a face moisturizer brush than an actual face washing brush. But this blue one is even better. The bristles aren't that round to begin with, and I definitely can feel this Face Washing Brush cleaning my face thoroughly than ever before. This isn't really hard to use, especially if you are someone who is worried that you can tranfer germs from your fingers to your face via facial cleansing regime.

Here's how I normally wash my face with this Face Washing Brush:

• Wet face and Face Washing Brush.


• Pour/Squeeze out a dollop of your facial cleanser on the brush.


• Using a small quanity of water, produce foam/suds on the dollop of facial cleanser that is on your Face Washing Brush.
• 
  
• Starting with your forehead, run gently in a clockwise circular motion while counting to 10.


• Then, rub gently again in a counter-clockwise circular motion while counting to 10.


• Repeat the above 2 steps on every part of your face, like your cheeks, nose, chin, etc.


• Wash your face clean once your entire face is cleaned and enjoy the feeling of clean and fresh skin.


• Remember to wash your Face Washing Brush clean of facial cleanser soap foam/suds.


• Dry your Face Washing Brush as much as you can and leave at a non-sunny area to slowly dry off by itself.

See? It's not that hard, if you only consider the actual usage of facial cleansers and cleaning method for your face as actual steps. What's more, those little irritating blackheads on my nose doesn't look so prominent any more than it previously was. Sure, there's still stubborn blackheads left behind, but the amount is actually miniscule, if I were to compared to photos of myself during the 1990s. It definitely looked so much cleaner than before!!

And last tip, use your Face Washing Brush gently. Even though you are trying to clean your clogged pores, there's really no need to use too much force at all. Just rub it gently, as per the method I taught above and before long, you will notice your face looking cleaner and feeling cleaner as well. Beside, this Face Washing Brush that I got isn't really harsh on my skin at all.

SilkPro Treatment Conditioner Review

WHAT IS IT: SilkPro Treatment Conditioner

VERDICT: First of all, the scent of this SilkPro Treatment Conditioner is rather pleasant. I'm guessing it's probably because of the shampoo range series, if not, your hair will smell weird with different scents from different hair products (the shampoo and conditioner, namely) clashing together. Not every scent complements each other ^^

It spreads easily, as you can see in the 3rd image above. However, this is also where my peeve about this product starts. For a start, conditioner(s) of any types or brands should make your hair feel smoother and much more manageable prior to using. And yet at the same time, able to be rinsed off completely and cleanly without leftover residue. A sample satchet is actually enough for 2 days usage as I don't need the entire satchet for my head, just mainly for the tangled, frizzy and split ends.

Again, I musy once more stress that the only product that touches your scalp at any time would be your shampoo as you need to wash it off in the end after deeply cleansing and massaging your scalp to promote blood circulation, blah blah blah. Conditioners, especially, must never ever touch your scalp, even if it's in the shower. It's not meant for scalp use, it's for hair use. Remember this!

True that this SilkPro Treatment Conditioner did make my hair feel much more smoother and manageable, almost as good as the Dove one I used years before. However, it sort of leaves a filmy and greasy feeling on my back, since my hair is long and touches my back easily especially when wet in the shower. The first day, I didn't realize it until I was done with my shower and was about to dry myself.

With that in mind, I paid a little more attention to my back as well for signs of greasiness and feelings of oiliness after using the SilkPro Treatment Conditioner. And there is the feeling of greasiness again! And it was really hard to wash off the feeling of greasiness/oiliness off my back after rinsing my hair clean of conditioner. Did I mentioned that I had to rinse my hair longer than before?

This SilkPro Treatment Conditioner although manages to leave my hair feeling smooth, soft and manageable, but it does take a little longer to rinse off, despite using only a small dollop for my hair. Mind you, I didn't use 5-6 teaspoon-ful of hair conditioner. Just a dollop is enough to cover from the back of your head to the ends of your hair. And I basically felt I was re-washing my hair all over again, but without the shampoo. And once the rinsing was done, my back was getting the conditioner treatment that was unnecessarily.

I ended up having to re-shower my back again to get rid of the greasy/oily feeling left by the conditioner. Thinking that it may be me and not this product, I tried using it on the back of my hand, as you can see in the last image above. The result? It's definitely SilkPro Treatment Conditioner, not me.

And at the end, I had more hairfall than before, despite using SilkPro Treatment Conditioner together with SilkPro Hair Fall Control Shampoo

WHAT I THINK: Having to re-do everything in the shower? Not cool..

Generally, I'd suggest getting this hair care kit and saving the shampoo samples for at least a good 2 days use as you don't need much shampoo on your head. And you can gauge/judge for yourself if it is really effective for you. I know it doesn't for me, so I won't bother to buy this product ever.

SilkPro Hair Fall Control Shampoo Review

VERDICT: First of all, the scent of this SilkPro Hair Fall Control Shampoo have a rather sweet and strong scent to it. However, this strong smell actually makes you hair smell nice after just 1 wash. And as claimed by SilkPro, "in just one wash, you can truly feel the difference", I personally beg to differ entirely.

I tried it the first time after getting the sample from SilkPro's Facebook page, this SilkPro Hair Fall Control Shampoo actually leaves a tingling and cooling sensation around my neck area where the shampoo dripped instead of feeling it on my scalp. (Just like the Head & Shoulders Menthol shampoo.) However, I don't see any improvement despite saving that 1 sample satchet for 2 days use. As SilkPro claimed that consumer(s) can see the difference in 1 wash, I found that I lost more hair after 1 wash instead. How's that for that quote "in just one wash, you can truly feel the difference"? I did feel the difference, but not as promised.

Granted that this shampoo didn't do much harm to my hair except to give me more hair fall instead of "controlling it", the scent actually is a perk me up after showering. However, I cannot deny the fact that this shampoo also cleanse well, lathers easily and also washed off easily too. 2 days after using that 1 sample satchet, I felt itchiness on my scalp, on top of the more-than-usual hair loss that was supposed to be controlled and felt in 1 wash.

Despite the shampoo touting to be a Hair Fall Control shampoo, it doesn't deliver at all. I'm pretty sure there are other shampoos out in the market that actually does the job as promised. Even when SilkPro has managed to get a few popular celebrities to endorse this product, I really and truly wonder if the endorsers actually did tried the shampoo for a duration of at least 1 week to a month, or were they really just paid to claimed that it works despite never using this before.

WHERE TO REDEEM A SAMPLE: I got my samples from SilkPro Singapore Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SilkProSG while they were still having a Facebook sample giveaway. However, the samples were redeemed too fast. So, I'd recommend being a fan of their page by Liking their page in order to be informed of their hair care kit giveaways at selected locations.

Generally, I'd suggest getting this hair care kit and saving the shampoo samples for at least a good 2 days use as you don't need much shampoo on your head. And you can gauge/judge for yourself if it is really effective for you. I know it doesn't for me, so I won't bother to buy this product ever.

Even the most amazing products won't do squat if they're not meant for your type. Here's a suggestion what complexion category you fall into.

Skin Type	Characteristics
Dry	Small pores, dullness, skin feels tight postcleansing
Oily	Large pores, acne prone, frequently looks shiny
Combination	Forehead, nose and chin are oily while cheeks are drier
Normal	Simlar to those of combination skin but with less oil in the T-Zone area

Here's the basic cleansing and moisturizing regimen you should follow every day.

Daily Care for Every Type

If Your Skin is...	Cleansing	Moisturizing
Dry	Wash with a mild, creamy, soap-free formula at night and just rinse with warm water in the morning.	Your skin can handle a cream that contains major hydrators like silicone, ceramides or glycerin. They prevent moisture from escaping your skin.
Oily	Oily sin needs a potent cleanser with salicylic acid alpha-hydroxy acid to get rid of dead skin and dissolve the excess sebum that plugs your pores.	Even if you feel you don't need it, you should use a moisturiser. Get a non- comedogenic one with a humectant, such as sodium PCA, hyaluronic acid or ceramides.
Combination	An oil free foaming cleanser with salicylic acid will get rid of the oil without stripping the dry areas.	If the dry parts are red and irritated, use a calming cream with chamomile or aloe. Otherwise, treat your skin as if it were oily with a humectant lotion.
Normal	Wash twice a day with a gentle soap-free, water-soluble formula.	Try out a bunch of lightweight non-comedogenic lotions until you find one that makes your skin feel its softest and smoothest.

Serve Yourself Right

Globbing on face products won't get you better results. Save yourself some dough by sticking to these usage guidelines.

Product	How Much To Use
Cleanser	Half a teaspoon will be enough for your face and neck.
Day Cream	Use about an inch-round dollop of lotion to cover your face and neck.
Night Cream	Night formulas are usually more concentrated that day creams, so use a little less.
Eye Cream	Divide this amount between both eye areas. The standard pot of eye cream is a half ounce, and that should last you about three months.
Zit Cream	Target only the zit so you don't dry out the skin around it.

Three Ways to Max Out Moisturiser

• Apply your cream to freshly washed damp skin within 3 to 5 minutes to seal in moisture that's already there
• Massage the cream in for at least 15 seconds to boost circulation and push the lotion as far into your skin as possible
• Screw the lid on tightly to prevent oxidation, which can decrease the potency of certain ingredients

VERDICT: As mentioned in my previous blog post, I got this sample from CozyCot's Coin Quest & Reward scheme. Initially, I have hesitations about anything related to 'Olive Oil' as I only use the actual form for cooking purposes. And I don't really think it would have been a great product when it comes to skin care. But this sample proved me wrong again!

First of all, the scent is just so heavenly and the lotion itself has a very smooth and soft texture to boast of. Although the scent is strong, but it's a good strong scent, it doesn't feel overpowering. It just makes you feel glad that you are using this product on your skin, and your skin will thank you for it. What's more, the texture of this Organia Relaxing Olive Body Essence Lotion is unlike other body lotions I have used and tried before. It doesn't feel heavy and cloggy when you applied it to your skin, it just glides on almost like milk and the absorption rate is rather fast too.

Even after application, it doesn't make my skin feel sticky at all. Just a feeling of euphoria and utter bliss! And with just a single application the first time round, I find my skin looking and feeling a little more hydrated than before. And as I have a tendency to apply body lotions at least 30 minutes before I hit the bed. This non-oily, non-cloggy and non-sticky feeling ensures that I do not leave any residue on my bedsheets throughout the night. Other body lotions I had used, I actually do need to apply it after my shower session and then wait till it gets fully absorbed before I dare to climb into bed. But not this one!

Almost another godsend, I would say, when it comes to moisturizing and non-sticky sensation. I hope this brand is available in Singapore though, it'll be a pity if such a wonderful body lotion isn't available in Singapore.
